AMCC Releases 2011-2012 Fall and Winter All-Sportsmanship Teams

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference kicked off NCAA Division III Week on Monday by announcing its 2011-2012 Fall and Winter All-Sportsmanship Teams.
At the end of each sport's season of competition, student-athletes vote for their team's representative for the conference's All-Sportsmanship Team. The honor is open to members of every team in an AMCC championship sport.
To be recognized, the student-athlete nominated from each team must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect, and fair play in both practice and competition. The student-athlete must also serve as a positive representative of school spirit at other teams' sporting events.
The 11 Penn State Altoona student-athletes who were voted to the Fall and Winter All-Sportsmanship Team are:
-Women's Volleyball: Marina Cotarelo (North Salem, NY/John F.Kennedy)
-Men's Basketball: Jordan Stiles (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria)

Men Place Fourth, Women Place Fifth at AMCC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. - After the final day of the James E. Longnecker Invitational/Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday at Grove City College, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team finished in fourth place out of four men's teams with 33 points, while the women's squad came in fifth out of five women's teams with 49 points.
A squad consisting of Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County), Zack Rickens (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro), Jonathan Delli Santi (Kenilworth, NJ/Academy for Allied Health and Sciences), and Robert Sklodowski (Bialystok, Poland/Quince Orchard) placed fourth in the Men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with times of 3:29.16 in the preliminaries and 3:29.92 in the finals.
Sklodowski also came in seventh in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle, making it in 53.32 in the preliminaries and 51.90 in the finals.
In the Women's 200 Yard Backstroke, Michelle DeFelice (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) placed fifth, earning a time of 2:52.21 in the preliminaries before clocking in at 2:50.00 in the finals.
Allison Jacobs (York, PA/Central York) and Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Women's 100 Yard Freestyle. Jacobs had times of 59.37 and 59.61, while McCulloch earned times of 1:02.60 and 1:00.29.

AMCC Swimming Championships' Second Day Complete

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Friday, the second day of competition in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference swimming and diving championships at Grove City College, saw Penn State Behrend pull ahead with dominant leads by both their men's and women's squads.
In the second day, the Penn State Altoona men's team had 16 points, while the women's team tallied 36 points.
Jonathan Delli Santi (Kenilworth, NJ/Academy for Allied Health and Sciences) earned a fourth place finish to get five points in the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke, achieving a time of 59.77 in the preliminaries before clocking in at 58.64 in the finals.
Adam Pataky (Plum, PA/Plum) picked up a point with an eighth place finish in the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke. He had times of 1:24.11 and 1:24.97 in the event.
Zack Rickens (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) came in seventh in the Men's 100 Yard Butterfly with times of 1:03.53 and 1:01.02 in the preliminaries and finals.
In the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle, Robert Sklodowski (Bialystok, Poland/Quince Orchard) placed seventh with a preliminary time of 1:59.31 and a finals time of 1:54.87.
Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County) finished eighth in the Men's 100 Yard Breaststroke. He clocked in at 1:08.65 in the preliminaries before a 1:05.98 time in the finals.
For the women's squad, Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) got a third place finish in the Women's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.88 in the preliminaries and 1:15.42 in the finals.
In the Women's 200 Yard Medley Relay, the squad of McCulloch, Michelle DeFelice (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley), Allison Jacobs (York, PA/Central York), and Courtney Pinckney (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn College Academy) earned their team more points with a fourth place finish. They had a time of 2:15.33 in the preliminaries before 2:11.21 in the finals.
Pinckney also had a pair of eighth place finishes in the Women's 200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Backstroke to earn a point in each event. She notched times of 2:40.63 and 2:31.26 in the Freestyle, while clocking in at 1:22.35 and 1:18.97 in the Backstroke.
DeFelice came in seventh in the Women's 100 Yard Backstroke with times of 1:18.93 and 1:18.68.

Grove City College hosts the 2012 James E. Longnecker Invitational this week, which acts as the conference swimming & diving championships for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
The competition occurs from February 15-18, but Penn State Altoona's involvement will begin on February 16.

Lions Wrap Up Day One at AMCC Swimming Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming teams completed their first day of competition at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships at Grove City College on Thursday.
After day one, the men's team had five points and the women's team had 16 points.
Among the highlights for the men, Christopher Sauder (Glenmoore, PA/Downingtown West) came in seventh place in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 5:50.95 in the preliminaries and then besting that time in the finals with 5:29.81.
Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County) finished sixth in the Men's 200 Yard IM. In the preliminaries, he clocked in at 2:15.17 before shaving some time off of that number with a 2:11.16 showing in the finals later that night.
In the Women's 200 Yard IM, Allison Jacobs (York, PA/Central York) placed fourth with a time of 2:26.38 in the preliminaries and 2:31.44 in the finals.
Mary Elizabeth McCulloch (Wingate, PA/Bald Eagle) and Jacobs also earned points for the Lady Lions by finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, in the Women's 50 Yard Freestyle. McCulloch finished the preliminaries in 27.97 and the finals in 27.28, while Jacobs swam 27.40 in the preliminaries and 27.35 in the finals.
